Roller Chains are one of the most popular methods for power transmission to move products and goods.
Recent studies by a leading bearing manufacturer show over half of bearing failures are the result of improper lubrication.
The roller chain consists of a series of connected journal bearings which require proper lubrication for long life. These benefits include:
- Resist wear of the pin-bushing joint
- Cushion impact loads
- Dissipate heat
- Flushing action of foreign materials
- Lubricate chain-sprocket contact surfaces
- Prevent rust or corrosion
LUBEIT Series GL chain automatic programmable lubrication system is easily adapted to meet these lubrication goals. The motor driven programmable lubricator kit complete with network metered distribution has wide variance in ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ settings to assist users in “dialing-in” to the exact needs of individual chains. When ordering specify number of chain lubrication points, e.g. six lubrication points; order LUBEIT GL 6 automatic chain lubricator.
When lubricating double and triple multiple strand chain it is important to direct lubricant to each row of chain link pins.
Lubricant viscosity ranges normally recommended for various operating temperatures:

Under normal circumstances, use clean petroleum oil without additives, free flowing oil at prevailing temperatures can achieve good lubrication practices and long chain life. Roller chains come in various configurations to suit many applications; these guidelines are a good starting point.
Typical roller chain applications include: Drive Chains, Drying Ovens, Tentering Frames, Material Processing, Transfer lines, Material handling systems. Flat-top conveyors and elevators etc.
A short selection of leading chain manufacturers include: Morse, Richards, Hitachi metals, Renold, Rexnord, UST Tsubati, Diamond, Tsubakimoto and Richards
